DISCRIMINANT FUNCTION ANALYSIS Discriminant function analysis, also known as discriminant analysis or simply DA, is used to classify cases into the values of a categorical dependent, usually a dichotomy. If discriminant function analysis is effective for a set of data, the classification table of correct and incorrect estimates will yield a high percentage correct. Discriminant function analysis is found in SPSS under Analyze>Classify>Discriminant. If the specified grouping variable has two categories, the procedure is considered "discriminant analysis" (DA). If there are more than two categories the procedure is considered "multiple discriminant analysis" (MDA). The full content is now available from Statistical Associates Publishers. Chapter 440 Discriminant Analysis - Statistical Software ~ Discriminant Analysis finds a set of prediction equations based on independent variables that are used to classify individuals into groups. There are two possible objectives in a discriminant analysis: finding a predictive equation for classifying new individuals or interpreting the predictive equation to better understand the relationships that may exist among the variables. In many ways .

Discriminant Function Analysis / SPSS Data Analysis Examples ~ Linear discriminant function analysis (i.e., discriminant analysis) performs a multivariate test of differences between groups. In addition, discriminant analysis is used to determine the minimum number of dimensions needed to describe these differences. A distinction is sometimes made between descriptive discriminant analysis and predictive discriminant analysis. We will be illustrating .

Discriminant Analysis Essentials in R - Articles - STHDA ~ Discriminant analysis is used to predict the probability of belonging to a given class (or category) based on one or multiple predictor variables. It works with continuous and/or categorical predictor variables. Previously, we have described the logistic regression for two-class classification problems, that is when the outcome variable has two possible values (0/1, no/yes, negative/positive).

Discriminant Analysis: Significance, Objectives, Examples ~ Well, in the case of the two group example, there is a possibility of just one Discriminant function, and in the other cases, there can be more than one function in case of the Discriminant analysis. Examples So, this is all you need to know about the objectives of the Discriminant analysis method. Let us move on to something else now.

Discriminant Function Analysis - an overview ~ Discriminant function analysis (DFA) is a statistical procedure that classifies unknown individuals and the probability of their classification into a certain group (such as sex or ancestry group). Discriminant function analysis makes the assumption that the sample is normally distributed for the trait. The posterior probability and typicality probability are applied to calculate the .

Mirko Savić Discriminant Analysis – Dejan Brcanov ~ Discriminant analysis is statistical, multivariate method which can be used in the research areas where dependent variable (Y) consists of categories rather than a continuous metric scale (interval or ratio). Discriminant analysis is a tool for classification of new observational units, especially new respondents, into groups or categories in which most probably it belongs. Number of groups or .

Discriminant Analysis / SpringerLink ~ Between 1936 and 1940 Fisher published four articles on statistical discriminant analysis, in the first of which [CP 138] he described and applied the linear discriminant function.
